January 24… Ft Pickens

Yesterday, we finally left St. Andrew’s State Park in Panama City Beach. GREAT place, beautiful campground, beautiful beach, plenty of walking trails and wildlife, and PCB right outside the gates. We’ll definitely be back someday.

After leaving St. Andrews, we made our way to our next campsite. The drive was hard, lots of ice and snow still causing traffic. Took us an extra long time, but we made it before dark and settled in.

Today, we made our way to Gulf Islands National Seashore to visit Fort Pickens. Built in the early/mid 1800’s and modified many times, the fort protected Pensacola bay thru the centuries, seeing service in the Civil War, WW1 and WW2.

As we walked around, we happened to meet a park service volunteer guide, and she gave me and Susy a personal tour throughout the grounds, explaining all the rooms and what we were seeing. Very informative, she made the experience memorable. It’s a long drive out to the fort, but if you’ve never been, it’s one I can recommend.

Been enjoying keeping up with you guys. If you all are that close to Pensacola, you really should go see the Naval Aviation Museum at Pensacola Naval Air station.

    1. I’ve been there before but quite some time ago, really enjoyed it. Pensacola has come and gone, we’ll have to go do that one next time around.
