Yesterday we took a ride WAY out in the beyond, past where the road ends and civilization stops. So far that we were surrounded by scrub and hills and sky, and humans didn’t exist.
Susy wanted to do some more rockhounding, so we went “out there”. Stopped the truck on the side of the wagon track we had been following, and started searching. Once again, she was a kid in a candy store, hopping from find to find, filling her pockets and then filling mine. Neither of us were smart enough to bring a pack, so I had to keep shuttling back and forth to the truck. If this place just had big trees, she’d be in heaven.
As we searched, a HUGE cow came over the hill, stopped and stared at us, and then started bellowing. Over and over she bellowed, and trotted closer and closer, just raising a ruckus. Straight towards us. We got nervous so we went back to the truck, and she finally veered aside, still hollering like mad, and kept going. Crazy!
As we traveled up and down the hills and wagon tracks, we found another group of inhabitants, several prong horns watched us go by.
By the end of the day we had a pile of treasures to take back and wash to get a really good look at them. Some ended up in the discard pile, but most stayed. I didn’t realize I married a rock groupie. 😂
Today, we went on an off-road tour in Sedona in a PeptoBismol-pink jeep. Sitting in the back, letting someone else do the driving for a change, we went up and down some of the roughest dirt tracks I’ve ever done. It was a road, sort of. Rocks, bumps, drop offs, this “road” was a mess. But it was a beautiful area with scenic views into the Coconino National Forest.
If I had to do it over again, I think I’d rather rent a side-by-side and go off-road myself, instead of the jeep tour. It was fun, but just once.
After the bumpy ride, we spent some time walking in Sedona, lunch, a little shopping, and Susy got to hold a snake.
She kept after me to hold it, but I refused. I think the snake was on my side, because when she kept pushing me to hold it, the snake pooped on her. 🤣
Moving day tomorrow, headed for Flagstaff. Gonna be COLD there, with a possibility of snow several days. 😖
