I made a stupid mistake today.
We were visiting Bryce Canyon National Park, and had just arrived at the visitor center. Prime time, the place was packed, and vultures were circling the parking lot waiting for an open space.
I had gone around once already, when a space right next to me opened up as a pull through. I cut hard, to get into the space, and had to back up to realign, and started into the space. As I started in, some guy started in from the other direction.
I drive a big truck, and he was in a puny little car, so I win, right?? Well, as I was glaring at him to back off, I lost track of my tight turn and scraped the side of the car parked next to me. Crap!!
After I was fully parked (yes, the guy in the little car yielded), Susanne went into the visitor center to see if the rangers could help find the car’s owner, but no luck. Being as we were in a National Park, the rangers do the accident report, rather than calling other law enforcement.
Susy worked with the ranger to fill out a report while I called our insurance company and started from that side. Took about 40 minutes, but we got a claim started, filed the proper documentation, provided the claim information to the ranger and finished up.
We left a note on the other car and went off to sight see. Several hours later, the ranger called and said the other party had finished their part of the report, and had gone on their way. Tourists from France in a rental car. 😞 The ranger said they had all the proper insurance, so he doubted we’d even hear from them. Hope I didn’t screw up their holiday in the US.
Looking at the “damage” to my truck…. Uh, it’s a truck against a BMW. If you look real close at my chrome bumper, you might be able to pick out some minor scratches, but the worst of it looks to be paint transfer from the Beemer. The BMW definitely lost the fight, but it wasn’t really all that bad. I’ll let Allstate handle it. They’re The Good Hands people, right??
