We moved from Provo to a place about 90 minutes north of Salt Lake, to another set of hot springs near Garland Utah. Once again, “hot” is a generous description. Maybe 93 degrees, it gives a very comfortable bath water feeling.
The “campground” looks GREAT on the web. Hot springs, activities, snorkeling and scuba diving going on, amenities galore. In the reality, not so much. Out of about 60 campsites, 40 are reserved for long term or permanent residents, and of the remaining 20, seven of them have permanent setups. Not so much a “campground” or “RV resort” as a mobile home park.
Most of the place looks a bit run down. Broken fences, buildings looking in disrepair, closed shower house (not that we need that). No office, no signs at the highway or out at the street or telling where to go to check in, just very disorganized. Came to find out the owner took over about three years ago from a bankrupt company that used to own the place. I think he put most of his development money into a nice website and just has future plans for the “rv resort” part of the business. Maybe it’ll be something someday, but right now…. meh. At least it’s clean, and the people we’ve met have been very nice.
The springs are kinda nice. Several different open ponds with warm water bubbling up in the middle. They are surrounded by rocky limestone blocks slanting down into the water, so getting in and out is an adventure in rock climbing. They have floating docks, but the one we went to didn’t have a ladder. Again, a bit of work and improvement and the place might live up to the slick website. Someday. Not yet.
