I picked out all of these campgrounds long ago, as much as a year or more for some of them.
I look at Google maps, I use the satellite views, I check their web pages, I scrutinize pictures they provide, I read the Google reviews, making sure to look for current reviews.
Well, this time I got it wrong. Bad wrong. So badly wrong that we were willing to give up our deposit and walk away.
The place was so sketchy looking. There was no office onsite… the building where we drove in SAID manager and office, but it turned out to just be the laundry room and bath house. When I called the number in the window, the guy told me to come back out on the highway and drive to a local motel and he could check me in there for the RV park.
ALL of the RVs in the place were permanently installed. Piles of junk around them. Some looked abandoned, and one in the back was a wreck. No landscaping, unlevel sites, pot holes in the road. Susanne wanted to burst into tears when she thought this was our home for a few days. Uh, nope.
When I checked in at the motel, I asked about the cancellation policy, and found that we were already within the 3-day window so No Refund For You! Don’t care, I’m forfeiting the money.
We called another park right down the road and had no trouble checking in, so like many problems, all it takes is money.
No matter how much reading you do, no matter how much research, sometimes the only way to know is to put your eyeballs on a place. 🙄🙄
