My sister Cindy and her hubby Bayo arrived yesterday. Flew into Portland and made the long drive down just to see us and spend some time together. We set up a tent for them last night out in the 40 degree wilderness, while we were snug in our trailer. It does get rather chilly inside at night. All the way down to 62 degrees inside. Brrrr!
Part way through the night, we heard an intruder sneaking into the trailer. Maybe some cussing. I didn’t really pay attention, it was still cold so I rolled over and went back to sleep. Found out later that the air mattress they were using completely deflated, and Bayo didn’t appreciate the joys of roughing it and sleeping on cold gravel. What’s with that? His birthday is today so freezing and sleeping on the hard ground should give counterpoint to his many warm and comfortable years. Happy Birthday Bayo! 🤣
Today we took them sightseeing. We visited some of the places Susy and I went the other day, the gorge and natural bridge, and then finally we all went to Crater Lake National Park.
The park is only partially open at this time. Apparently it’s a big job clearing snow up there. They average about 40+ feet of snow every year, so plowing the roads is a tough process. There are still 10 foot tall snowdrifts lining all the roads, and tunnels through them to get into buildings and restrooms.
But OMG, the view from the rim is breathtaking. The lake was almost a perfect mirror, reflecting the mountain and the nearly cloudless blue sky.

That’s Wizard Island out in the middle. Kind of the remains in the middle of the original volcano.
Crater Lake is the deepest lake in North America at over 1900 feet deep, and the deepest lake in the world formed by a volcano. In case you were interested.
After leaving the park, I took Cindy and Bayo on a long trek through the woods. They are quite a bit taller than I am, so I practically had to jog the entire trail just to keep up. Cindy was on my heels the entire way, breathing down my neck and cracking her sled dog whip whenever I tried to slow down to breathe. At least in my mind. 😁
