August 5…. What’s that stuff called?

We left home on January 5, had to hook up and drive through Georgia in the rain.

Since then, I have seen rain maybe five times. Never even bad enough to break out my rain coat, most of the rain has been civilized, only raining overnight and done by morning. We’ve been snowed on more often than rain.

Today is one of those “uncivilized” rains. It’s almost noon and still drizzling. Oh no, make me take a vacation day. 😮

Susanne flew back to Atlanta Monday. Just some business to take care of at home, but it means I’m solo for the first time this year. Oh my, whatever shall I do with myself?

I walked the two miles to the beach and took some pics of an old shipwreck. The Peter Iredale. A steel-hulled steam and sailing vessel that ran aground in 1906. It was mostly salvaged way back when, but there’s some bones still there.

I’ve ridden my bike a lot through Ft. Stevens State Park. Over 16 miles, just so far. Took the bike up over 500 miles. 😮

Visited Battery Russell, a coastal defense battery built in 1896, and used through WWII. The guns are long gone, just the concrete structure remains.

I also visited the I-25 Memorial, a commemoration of the event in WWII, where a Japanese submarine shelled the Oregon coast at Ft. Stevens. This was the first time the US mainland was attacked since the War of 1812. The sub later launched a float plane which dropped some bombs on a forest near Brookings Oregon.

Walked on the beach, found a waterfall, found some sea caves.

This IS the area where the famed pirate One Eyed Willie stashed all his treasure. Maybe I should be goonie and take a closer look at those caves.

Been a busy week so far and it’s only Wednesday. LOTS more to do around here. Lewis and Clark, Tillamook Cheese, going fishing. I’ll figure out what’s next after the rain is done.
