Sunday we headed out from Gig Harbor for our new spot in Birch Bay Washington. We have now officially reached the furthest-from-home location of our entire journey… 2,205 miles, as the crow flies. If a crow could fly that far in a straight line, that is.
We are about 10 minutes from the Canadian border, so today we went to Vancouver, British Columbia. Driving through Vancouver was kinda like Seattle, but much less stressful for some reason. Streets just as narrow, lanes that suddenly became parking spaces. Buses zooming alongside following overhead electric power lines. But no big deal. Maybe the trip to Seattle burned it out of me, but today was a nice trip.
Specifically, we visited Stanley Park in Vancouver. A huge park out on the end of a peninsula, surrounded by water on three sides, crisscrossed by hiking and biking trails and some huge trees. Not redwood huge, but big enough.

Not really having any definite destination, we just wandered the trails seeing the sights. Over 5 miles of wandering. 😮
I recall passing through Vancouver after a cruise almost 30 years ago, and at that time, we visited Stanley Park as well. Totem poles were what I remembered most, so we looked them up.

It was a great day in a beautiful city. Clean, friendly, no horns or raised fingers-of-friendship. All of the Canadians we’ve met (so far) have been really nice. Maybe it’s not just a stereotype after all. Just don’t make any jokes with border security. They don’t have any sense of humor.

Just be careful what you talk aboot and sprinkle “eh” into any conversation. And if you happen to say “y’all”, everyone chuckles and asks where you’re from.
