January 27…. I said it was just a “pause”

Annnnd, here we go again.

2026 is a new year and that means new adventures. We’ve spent the last few months renewing, renovating, refreshing, and just plain WORKING on our house, but now it’s time.

The Spirit of Discovery is hitting the road again. We’re Back, Baby!

We just survived The Winter Storm of The Decade here in north Georgia. The media hyped it up for days leading up to the event, and when it finally landed on us…. it was a big non-event in my view. Some sleet. Some icy roads. Lots of empty shelves at Walmart and Publix. But other than that, nothing much.

EXCEPT IT’S SO DANG COLD!!

It was 12 degrees last night, and didn’t break freezing till this afternoon, and then only for an hour or so. And the wind chill is hitting single digits I think. Too cold for this southern boy by far.

So in a true Spirit of Discovery fashion, if the weather where we are is no good, we just go somewhere else.

Susy and I are headed further south. We’ll go spend a couple weeks in Florida and maybe miss some of this brutal chill. (Though I hear it’s supposed to cool off down there too, maybe into the 40’s and 50’s, oh my 🤪)

Planning to spend a week in Apopka FL, see Silver Springs and Blue Springs, and maybe go to the Space Center on the coast, then move upstate a bit and visit some more of the springs. Maybe more manatees. A little more “wing it” this time, just have to wait and see where the wind blows us.
