February 4…. Emeralds
Today was another kayak day, because… Florida. We had a few cold days here over the weekend, but this week it’s getting warmer every day and today is wonderful. 75 and sunny. Exactly why we came. 🙂 We visited a place called Kings Landing, which is really just a place to launch the kayaks, but…

February 2…. Blue Springs
We visited Blue Springs State Park today. As we drove up, there was a line of cars waiting to get in the gate. A LONG line. What the heck, we’re here, and we’re retired. Get in line. As we drove down the road, looking for the end of the line, it became clear just how…

January 31…. Exploring Dora
We went to the Mount Dora Arts Festival today. Another Florida winter day, cooler than yesterday but still in the 50’s and partly sunny. All of the locals are bundled up and shivering. Nuts! This festival is huge!! Booths lining all of the streets around the town, hundreds of vendors and exhibits, THOUSANDS of people.…

January 30…. No snow here!
Yesterday was a kayak day. We visited Wekiwa Springs State Park in Apopka Fl. Beautiful blue water boiling up into a huge swimming area and flowing into a river through the forest. We launched a single kayak this time. Usually we each have one to ourselves, but decided to go tandem this time. Excellent idea!…

January 27…. I said it was just a “pause”
Annnnd, here we go again. 2026 is a new year and that means new adventures. We’ve spent the last few months renewing, renovating, refreshing, and just plain WORKING on our house, but now it’s time. The Spirit of Discovery is hitting the road again. We’re Back, Baby! We just survived The Winter Storm of The…

November 9…. Th-th-th-that’s all folks. (for now)
And just like that, it’s over. “Real life” intrudes again. We spent time this weekend pulling groceries and clothes and items we might need in the house out of the trailer, and then took her away to the storage yard. I miss her already, and I know she misses us. Being back in an actual…

November 7…. But I don’t WANNA 😭
Today’s the day. I knew it was coming but this is it. I don’t want this, I’m not going to enjoy it, you can’t make me. This is the last few hours of our adventure. In a couple hours, we’ll pack it all up and head out to go “home”. But THIS is our home…

November 5…. And the answer is…
Well, the question has always been “where’s the best place you’ve been?” We’re spending the week in Townsend Tennessee. I’ve been coming here for over 50 years. Townsend is the tiny little gateway town to Great Smoky Mountain National Park, and more specifically, Cades Cove, a small valley area in the west end of GSMNP,…

November 2…. Greece
I went to Greece today. Kinda. Way back in 1897, to celebrate the centennial of Tennessee becoming a state, they held The Tennessee Centennial Exposition in Nashville. All kinds of fun exhibits and events, kinda like a world’s fair, it drew crowds from all over the country. Nashville’s population was under 100,000 at the time,…

November 2…. An Ode to Waffle House
O WaHo, my WaHo, how I missed thee so. Your glistening white orbs, so delicately cracked and deliciously prepared over medium. Your shredded potatoes, so golden and crisply fried to perfection. Scattered. Smothered. Covered. Peppered. Those beautifully sizzling strips of bacon, and lightly buttered toast. O WaHo you bring the light to my morning, the…
