October 1…. Close Encounter
Today we’re visiting Devil’s Tower National Monument. As I said in my latest rant, we did not have to go online and pay a fee to get in. I’ll never understand the rationale of the federal government if I live to be a hundred. The tower stands almost 1000 feet from its base to summit,…

September 27…. Norris Geyser Basin
We spent our last day in YNP exploring, just like the ones before. This time, Norris Geyser Basin. Mostly more of what we’d already seen, the general theme of hot water, steam, boiling mud, and streams of colored algae, just arranged a little differently. And to finish off the day, we visited Grand Prismatic Spring,…

September 26…. Oh, and another thing
We’re visiting a National Monument right now, I’ll show pics and details when my blog catches up to today, but for now, I will rant. We walked into the park yesterday, and there was a sign on the entry kiosk telling where to go online to pay your entry fee. All automated. No staff necessary.…

September 26…. Fire in the hole
Friday we started out by hiking along the Firehole Lake road. Hiking, not driving the road because it is closed. Some less-than-intelligent individual ignored the signs saying NO RV’S and went down it anyway and broke the bridge. 🤬 Anyway, it still makes for a pretty walk. We then moved on to a hiking trail…

September 25…. Oh, and another thing
My sister sent us some more of the pictures of my great aunt’s visit to Yellowstone in 1916. I thought it was great that some of mine look just like hers, only in color.

September 25…. Geysers. Again.
Thursday started out as a visit to West Thumb Geyser Basin. Yellowstone Lake is the largest lake in YNP, and the largest body of freshwater in the US above 7000 ft. The lake is shaped roughly like a hand, and West Thumb is, well, the thumb. It’s also a very active thermal feature in YNP,…

September 24…. The Grizz
Another long drive, this time up to the northeast corner of the park to Lamarr Valley, in search of wildlife. LOTS of buffalo all over the valley. Herds of 8 or 10, to as many as 300 to 400. Lots of single males sprinkled here and there. We saw a bunch of antelope, but not…

September 23…. Oh, and another thing
Susy and I finished a visit to Yellowstone this week. Two of us traveling in a little trailer. Only 37 ft long. Roughing it my way. My last visit to Yellowstone was in 2018 with my late wife Sheila, in an Odyssey minivan, and staying at several lodges inside the park. Roughing it her way.…

September 23…. Mammoth Hot Springs
As mentioned previously, Yellowstone NP is enormous. From our campsite, Mammoth is one of the farthest areas in the park at over 90 minutes. We made the trek. Yellowstone National Park was the very first designated national park in the United States, in 1872. In those days, there was no National Park Service, so the…

September 22…. Oh, and another thing
Nothing to do with Yellowstone, but I need to give a big shout out to one of my favorite brothers-in-law, Bayo Adedoyin. Bayo is a graphics designer of the highest caliber. When Susanne and I started our journey, and we mentioned I was going to be doing a blog, Bayo offered to create a logo…
