June 26…. Maybe not
Not a lot going on this week. We moved up the coast from Crescent City California to the central Oregon coast north of Coos Bay. It’s still beautiful country here, but very sparsely settled. Tiny towns dot the coast, some no more than a gas station and a few shops and some houses, but only…

June 21…. Favorite?
As we talk to people about our journey and where we’ve been and what we’ve seen, the same question comes up over and over. What has been our favorite place, so far? Well, maybe we’ve found it. The Pacific coast, Northern California and Oregon, just grabs us both. It has the beach. It has giant…

June 15…. Another beach day
We went walking on the beach yesterday because… rocks of course. A local man suggested a beach location where Susy could find some great rocks for her collection, so we traveled up that way. Kellogg Beach, just north of Crescent City. Very strange to me. I grew up in Florida, visiting the beach daily when…

June 14…. Crescent City and Brookings
This one has no theme, it’s just a mish mash of the things we’ve been doing since Monday. We’ve been exploring the coast and the parks all over this extreme northwest California and up the southern Oregon coast. Some days it was ocean and beaches, some days it was hiking in the hills among the…

June 9…. Somebody stole my truck!
After being shocked awake way before the crack of dawn by a phone call from back home, we decided to get up and go watch the sunrise at the beach and eat breakfast out. But, we learned afterwards, this area is completely fogged in every morning this time of year, so no sunrise. We did…

June 8…. Aahhhhh! (a giant sigh of contentment)
We left Oregon this morning and moved to a site in Crescent City, California. The campground we were staying at back in Oregon was Lake Selmac County Park, outside Selma. A very pretty campground on a nice lake. Huge private campsite surrounded by large trees, including a few redwoods. And NO cell service. So no…

June 7…. Oregon’s Caves
I went to the Oregon Caves National Monument and Preserve today. I have to say… meh. I took the tour through the cave, and it was “nice”. “Interesting”. Just ok. It’s a mile long tunnel in the mountain, ducking and weaving, tiny small passages through the rock. “Some” formations as seen in other caves, but…

June 6…. Illinois
The Illinois River in Oregon, that is. We stopped in a rock shop in Selma Oregon yesterday and they gave us some tips on where and what to look for. In this case, in this area, it’s serpentine. A beautiful green color in all different shades from pale pastel all the way to a dark…

June 3…. Cougar, and not the fun kind
We left Crater Lake RV Park this morning after a full two week stay. I loved that place and I’m really going to miss it. When we arrived at our new campsite, we were greeted by the host, who told us “Don’t worry about the cougar, we think it’s gone”. Turned out, a cougar has…

June 1…. Snow Day
In June! Snow, and lots of it. We went back to Crater Lake today, hoping to be able to hike some of the rim trails, but no. The snow had melted off a bunch since last week, but there was still a ton of snow, lining the roads 8-10 feet deep and throughout the trees…
