We went to Fanning Springs yesterday. I’d never been there before but it was well worth it. Beautiful blue-green bowl, clean and deep, just boiling up with crystal clear water. A huge swimming area, we saw a diver coming up the ramp, and later a couple just swimming. Not so easy when it’s only 50 degrees out but they managed. Saw another heard? pod? gaggle? of manatees just hanging out in the warm (to them) water, surrounded by cypress trees and cypress knees everywhere.
The state park is just on the other side of the Suwannee river from our campground, so we made the short ride over the bridge on our bikes. On the way, Susy cut a curb a bit too tight and almost crashed, but recovered nicely and kept on. While at the park, we went on a walk and she stumbled and fell. All good, she bounced right back up and we completed the hike.
Back at the camper, we have both been feeling our pains, her from her minor mishaps and me from a strained back that’s plagued me all week. It’s supposed to rain today so I think we’ll just have a rest day.
Susy is our medic, always knows what to do for our ailments, how to treat them, what to take or the best way to recover. My treatment methodology is more along the lines of “suck it up, wait for it to go away”. Makes her crazy when I keep saying “I’ll be a’ight” when I grit my teeth through the pain. I hope she doesn’t get tired of me saying that and decide to murder me in my sleep. 😉
Today marks one week on our journey, and we are feeling some effects. This trip is not for the weak or faint of heart, there’s too much to see and do. Today, we’ll take a day off, listen to the rain, bring back our Spirit of Discovery.
