January 20… yes, it’s still winter.

Way too cold in Florida for my taste, FL is supposed to be warm and sunny year round. That’s why we came down here. Sadly, winter followed us here. Not letting that stop us though, we went to the beach again today.

Grayton Beach State Park. I had never been there and it was worth the drive. BEAUTIFUL white sand and clear blue-green water, not a soul in sight, we walked on the beach for a while then went on a dunes hike. Took a quick spin thru the campground. Lots of secluded shady sites. The only “down side”, if you can even call it that, the park is kinda out in the middle of nowhere. Just plan ahead and it’s all good.

Another cool thing at Grayton…. Out on the beach they have two yellow guide posts which will give you a heading straight off the beach to a set of artificial reefs set up in the shape of a giant sea turtle. Coral, fish, lots of marine life, all in about 10-15 feet of water, perfect for snorkeling. Definitely not something we did this time, but I’d like to come back when it’s warm and give it a try.

It’s supposed to snow in north Florida tomorrow. Maybe we’ll be able to sit on the beach and watch it snow. Or maybe we’ll be smart enough to stay inside and watch from the comfort of our warm camper.
