February 11…. Galveston

Been here three days so far and enjoying it. Galveston reminds me of the strip at Daytona, or Panama City Beach. Lots of “touristy” stuff right along Seawall Blvd… condos, restaurants, beach shops, fishing piers, and of course, the beach. Look in the background and you might see my camper. 😁

I went exploring on Sunday and found a spot overlooking the ship channel. Ships everywhere I looked.

Also found the remains of an old battery/gun emplacement from Fort San Jacinto, another coastal protection site from the 18 and early 1900’s. Not much of it left.

Found a maritime museum with a WW2 destroyer escort, the USS Stewart, and another WW2 submarine, the USS Seawolf, out to the west of Galveston. Another busy spot on a shipping channel.

Later, Susy and I were eating dinner and I spotted another WW2 battleship, the USS Texas, moored across from the restaurant. I didn’t go visit… if you’ve seen one battleship, you’ve seen them all. 😉

Tried riding our bikes last night, but Susy had a flat and we had to limp back home. Today, I replaced the tire and tube and we finally got that long ride we’ve been itching for. The Galveston Seawall runs for about 12 miles along the entire stretch of the waterfront. We rode about half way down, had lunch, and came back. Round trip about 12 miles on a bicycle!! Who would have ever thought I’d do something like that! Susy pedaled the whole way, I only pedaled for 8 or 9. Minutes, I mean. I didn’t just buy an e-bike for nothing ya know. 😁
