June 14…. Crescent City and Brookings

This one has no theme, it’s just a mish mash of the things we’ve been doing since Monday.

We’ve been exploring the coast and the parks all over this extreme northwest California and up the southern Oregon coast.

Some days it was ocean and beaches, some days it was hiking in the hills among the giant trees. Sometimes both in one day. Or exploring a river or creek. Or the tide pools. Or the cliffs. Watching the sunset over the ocean. Always looking for new places for Susy to collect rocks. Starting to think this may be our new favorite area of our whole trip.

This morning was one of our best. We woke up and the sun was out, no fog, so we hopped up and went to the beach to take advantage of the low tide and to visit the tide pools. After hopping all around, looking for sea life, we plopped down on the beach. The place we were was not sand, but covered in pebbles, from the size of a pin head up to almost marble sized. All perfectly rounded and smooth, and colored like a rainbow, it made for great barefoot walks and so nice and comfortable to nest in. I napped while Susanne searched for the perfect pebble.

One quirk to this town…. diesel fuel is $5.59 all over town here!! The stupid part of that is that if you go just two miles south of town, the Indian casino sells it for $4.50. Still expensive, but over a dollar per gallon cheaper. When we fill a 36 gallon tank, that really adds up.

The weather here is fantastic. Upper 50’s every day and 40’s at night. We’re told that those temperatures are pretty much normal year round. Foggy mornings, then beautiful sunny days. They tell us it rains from November to March, but I don’t really care ‘cause it’s June right now. 😁.

If only they had a Waffle House, I might seriously consider moving here.
